Glamourous Hair at the CFDA Awards
The red carpet was riddled with the hottest A-List names for the CFDA Fashion Awards, and it was certainly nothing short of a glamorous affair. Held at the Alice Tully Hall in the Lincoln Centre New York, this star-studded event brought an array of fashion and beauty, showcased by all our favourite models and actresses. The celeb guests pulled out all the stops and certainly did not disappoint with their fabulous get-ups, raising the style stakes to another level. Summer hair trends were also definitely apparent with styles such as loose curls, side parts and ponytails making an appearance in front of cameras. Whether it was striking hairstyles or even unshaven armpits, this fashionable affair was a time to show off in one way or another.
The Centre Parting
The Olsen twins became women-of-the-moment at the ceremony, winning designers of the year for their fashion label The Row. They were also winning big on the hairstyle front with a tight centre part look in their signature ombré colouring. Karlie Kloss also embraced a relaxed middle part style, with loose blonde strands falling just below shoulder length, blow dried to perfection and sculpted to her facial features. Chrissy Teigen combined a pulled back centre parting along with a bouncy blow dry for a look filled with body. The hair was delicately placed down her back in order to show off a bare neckline and dazzling drop earrings.
The Side Parting
Along with the centre part, the side part regularly cropped up as a hairstyle of choice. Katie Holmes looked a fountain of youth at 36 with straight, chocolate brown tresses blown with extra height and definition. January Jones went natural in terms of makeup tones and her hair was combed to one side and pinned up on the other, creating a sophisticated style like no other. If lilac hair and an undercut would suit anyone it would be Kelly Osbourne. She worked this brave hairstyle perfectly on the red carpet and teamed the grungy side parting with a stunning floor-length gown.
The Up-do
There seemed to be a variety of up-dos at the event and Janella Monáe’s look was a showstopper in itself. Her mohawk style updo was held together with rings, embracing a popular hair jewellery trend we’ve seen popping up on catwalks and red carpets this season. Vanessa Hudgens and Coco Rocha chose to go for a bun hairstyle, both adopting the low nature and a centre part yet differing slightly in terms of overall neatness – which low bun style do you prefer?
Laidback Waves
Celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Yepez was responsible for the hair of current It Girl Gigi Hadid on the night, transforming her mane into beautiful beach waves. It was a ‘lived-in’ look with plenty of texture and body for a youthful yet stunning style. Despite her evergrowing armpit hair, Jemima Kirke still managed to look flawless with her long locks styled to the side in subtle waves. Her look was completed with large flower earrings and a red lip, radiating her natural beauty (quite literally!). Model Jessica Hart also embraced natural kinks for the event, tucking blonde strands behind her ears and adding a rugged look to an otherwise formal ensemble.
The Ponytail
Kim Kardashian-West decided to go for a slick low ponytail, held in place with plenty of product, ensuring there wasn’t a strand out of place. It’s a look we’re familiar with her wearing but it was the perfect option in order to show off the sheer detailing of her Proenza Schouler dress. Super gorgeous model Joan Smalls also chose to style her hair in a pulled-back ponytail but unlike Kim, it was sculpted from a middle part and coordinated with dramatic eye makeup. Fashionista Victoria Beckham mixed up the sleek ponytail trend and went for a looser version with flyaway strands and height at the crown.
